The Ganga river at Rishikesh

Rishikesh FAQ for foreign travellers

Booking with a foreign number, ID, dress, safety, the rafting season and getting from the airport to Tapovan.

Frequently asked questions

Can foreigners book your tours, rafting and taxis?

Yes. Anyone can book, whether or not you stay at our hotels. Send a request on the site and our team confirms on WhatsApp.

Can I use a foreign phone number?

Yes. International numbers work. Enter your number with the country code (for example +44, +49 or +972) so we can reach you on WhatsApp.

Do I pay online in advance?

No. There is no advance online payment. Our team confirms your booking first, and for taxis you pay the driver after the ride.

Are prices shown in my currency?

Prices are set in Indian rupees (₹). The USD, EUR and ILS figures next to them are approximate conversions to help you compare; the final price is in rupees.

What ID should I carry?

Carry your passport (or a copy) and your Indian visa with you. Hotels in India must record foreign guests’ passport and visa details, and some activity operators may ask for ID.

How should I dress at temples and ashrams?

Cover shoulders and knees, and remove your shoes before entering temples. Modest clothing is also respectful at the ghats, the Ganga aarti and in Tapovan’s ashrams.

Is Rishikesh safe for solo women travellers?

Many solo women travel through Tapovan every season. Use the usual precautions: avoid empty ghats and lanes late at night, use known taxis rather than accepting rides from strangers, and share your plans with your hotel. Our taxis are booked and confirmed by our own team.

When is the rafting season?

Rafting runs roughly from late September to 30 June. It closes in the monsoon (July to September) and can pause for a day or two after heavy rain. Wetsuits are recommended from November to February.

Can I swim in the Ganga?

The current is strong even where it looks calm. Stay knee-deep in the shallows, do not swim, and stay out of the river during the monsoon or when it is high.

How do I get from Dehradun Airport to Tapovan?

Jolly Grant (Dehradun) Airport is the closest airport. Our fixed-fare airport taxi is ₹1,500 per car, one way. Add your flight number when you book and we confirm the pickup on WhatsApp.

Can I cancel?
